About the University Librarian Role
The University Librarian is a Principal Officer of the University and reports to the Vice-Chancellor.
The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day administration of the University Library and coordinate library services across the University’s Colleges, Faculties, Schools, Institutes, Centres and other academic units.
The role also requires strong administrative, academic and research leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer the University Library and coordinate its services across the University.
- Provide academic and administrative leadership for library operations.
- Support teaching, learning and research through effective library services.
- Lead the development and improvement of modern library operations.
- Promote the use of e-Library platforms and digital library services.
- Initiate and support high-impact research activities.
- Apply modern management and administrative procedures in library operations.
- Support the University’s research and knowledge-development objectives.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants for the position should meet the following requirements:
- Ph.D. in Library or Information Science from a recognised university.
- At least 14 years of relevant post-qualification experience.
- Relevant experience in a university environment is preferred.
- Verifiable evidence of substantial contribution to knowledge through research.
- Strong record of scholarly publications in reputable journals in Nigeria and internationally.
- Proficiency in management and administrative procedures.
- Knowledge of modern library operations and services.
- Ability to use computer software and e-Library platforms effectively.
- Registered membership of the Library Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN).
- Membership of other relevant professional associations is also expected.
Conditions of Service
The successful candidate will receive remuneration and other benefits applicable within the Nigerian University System.
The conditions of service are also subject to decisions of the University Governing Council.
The appointment will be for a single term of five years.
