Our impactful program aims to empower young girls, women and persons with disability who are passionate in developing their capabilities in ICT & other essential digital application that will enable them thrive in today’s digital economy.
With a growing need for digital skill acquisition being pivotal in accessing Education, Employment, Entrepreneurship, Civic Participation etc. It presents a very timely & inclusive chance for all these marginalised group to acquire job relevant and future ready digital skills without paying anything.
About the WomenPower2030 Project
WomenPower2030 Project is a Financial Framework Partnership Agreement (FFPA) between the European Union and a consortium of 5 feminist organisations, including the Women Engage for a Common Future (WECF).
The project is a global initiative aimed at:
- Strengthening the capacity of feminist civil society networks/organizations.
- Promoting gender equal sustainable development.
- Influencing legislation and/or policies to advance women’s rights.
- Mobilizing women/youth/gender diverse activist(s) towards collective action.
Women Environmental Programme(WEP), as one of the implementing partner of this global initiative is playing a significant roles of delivery on community focused empowerment programmes especially among women/vulnerable population in Nigeria.
About the Digital Skills Development Programme
Are you passionate about making an impact? Our Digital Skills Development Programme (Cohort II) equips selected participants with essential digital skills through its free 12-week intensive training that empowers them to use what they’ve learned in their education, jobs, advocacy, entrepreneurial pursuits, or as a freelancer.
By focusing on bridging the digital gender gap, we strive to create greater economic inclusion by giving more people equal opportunity to partake in technology driven opportunities including young girls and women and persons with disabilities in Abuja. Participants will be given structured learning opportunities along with guidance of building up portfolios around five different key digital skill areas that are highly relevant today.
Courses Offered Under the Programme
1. Office Suite Essentials
This course will enhance your foundation of computer literacy and give you the skills needed to confidently use word processing (e.g., Word), spreadsheet programs (e.g., Excel), presentation software (e.g., PowerPoint) and other office applications.
Participants will also learn how to:
- Manage & organize digital files efficiently.
- Use communication and collaboration tools effectively.
- Create professional documents, spreadsheets and presentation.
- Organize information for everyday, academic and professional use.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to apply the essential productivity tools to assist them with their academic works as well as other activities such as office administration, data entry, reporting and/or small business operations.
2. Graphic Design
This course introduces you to the fundamentals of visual communication & design principles You’ll explore and practice with tools such as
- Canva
- Adobe Illustrator
- Adobe Photoshop
In this project-based workshop, you’ll learn how to create compelling visual content through engaging activities such as designing flyers/posters/social media graphics/branding materials, building a foundational design portfolio, and communicating your ideas in a visual way.
3. Video Editing
This class is perfect if you are interested in branding/marketing/advocacy campaigns/social media management and creative entrepreneurship.
What you Will Learn
Participants will have developed their ability to:
- Design Flyers
- Posters
- Social Media Graphics
- Branding Materials
- Communicate Ideas Visually and Creatively.
- Build A Basic Design Portfolio For Freelance Or Professional Use Video Editing.
Participants will learn how to plan, edit and produce their own short videos with beginner friendly software during this Video Editing course.
Key learning areas include:
In this class we will cover basics of digital storytelling including video sequencing and pacing, audio/visual synchronization and creating content for social media, advocacy and education.
Participants will create original video projects based on their own personal interests, advocacy goals and/or business ideas. Skills learned are applicable to all sorts of content creators, NGOs, Educators & Small Business Owners
4. UI/UX Design
Our UI/UX Design Course will introduce you to the principles of User Interface(UI) & User Experience(UX).
Through our training with industry standard tools including Figma, you will learn about:
- Fundamentals of User-Centered Design.
- Wireframing & Prototyping
- User Journey Mapping
- Accessibility and inclusive design principles.
Participants will be able to showcase their skills and knowledge gained from this training through creating a basic portfolio of UI / UX Design works by designing intuitive, accessible and impactful digital products by the end of this course.
5. Web Development with WordPress CMS
In this 12 week Web Development Course you’ll learn how to build Professional & Responsive Websites using Word Press (World’s Most Popular Content Management System) hands on!
The course covers:
- Domain & Hosting Setup
- WordPress Installation & Configuration.
- Theme Customization & Page Builders.
- Plugin Integration & Website Security.
- Content Management & Website Maintenance.
At the end of this programme, you’ll have all the skills needed to create, manage and maintain your own fully-functional website without having to write complex codes, opening up numerous opportunities for you including Freelancing, Entrepreneurship and Digital Employment.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for selection into the Digital Skills Development Programme (Cohort II), you are expected to satisfy the following conditions.
- You must be a young girl, woman or person with a disability.
- Candidates must be aged 15-35 years.
- You have a genuine interest in acquiring digital skills/ICT.
- You must be a resident of Federal Capital Territory (FCT)/Abuja.
- You are willing/able to make full commitment to the twelve week’s programme duration.
Note that satisfying the above mentioned eligibility criteria does not imply automatic acceptance for selection into the programme. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for further details.
This Programme will last for 12 weeks (3 months). You’ll be required to attend all of our sessions and do some tasks/activities within this period.
We expect that you will participate fully during this time. It’s also free! (Fully Funded)
